Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced AI/ML Data Scientist with strong expertise in developing and implementing sophisticated machine learning, deep learning, NLP, and generative AI solutions specifically within the insurance domain. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in Underwriting and Claims processes and be able to leverage advanced AI techniques to solve complex business challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement end-to-end AI/ML solutions to address complex insurance challenges, particularly in Underwriting and Claims departments
- Apply advanced NLP techniques for document processing, including OCR-based text extraction, document classification, and document summarization
- Create and deploy large language models (LLMs) and generative AI solutions to automate and enhance insurance processes
- Leverage cloud infrastructure (AWS SageMaker, Databricks) to build scalable and robust AI solutions
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Lead the full ML lifecycle from data collection, preprocessing, and feature engineering to model development, validation, and deployment
- Optimize models for performance, accuracy, and business impact
- Stay current with the latest developments in AI/ML technologies and apply new techniques where appropriate
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to knowledge sharing initiatives
- Document methodologies, processes, and technical specifications
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or related field (Master’s or PhD preferred)
- 6-10 years of hands-on experience in AI/ML engineering with progressively increasing responsibilities
- Demonstrable experience in the insurance industry, specifically in Underwriting and/or Claims processes
- Strong proficiency in Python and relevant data science libraries (NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
- Expertise in developing and implementing NLP solutions, including:
- OCR-based text extraction from insurance documents
- Document classification for policy processing
- Intelligent document summarization
- Proven experience with LLMs and generative AI projects, including fine-tuning models for domain-specific applications
- Hands-on experience with AWS SageMaker, Databricks, or similar ML platforms
- Strong understanding of ML operations and model deployment in production environments
- Experience with big data technologies and distributed computing frameworks
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience with Palantir Foundry and AIP
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in implementing AI solutions for risk assessment or fraud detection in insurance
- Knowledge of insurance regulatory requirements and compliance considerations for AI systems
- Experience with computer vision applications in document processing
- Contributions to open-source projects or research publications in AI/ML
- Familiarity with MLOps practices and tools
- Experience leading AI/ML initiatives and managing project timelines
